Regulations and Information

Singing students in Norway up to the age of 25 (born in 1999 or later) are eligible to apply to the Opera Academy. The digital application platform is made available via our website. The application window opens on 15 March and closes on 15 April 2024. It is free to apply for participation.

Up to ten singers will be invited to participate in the programme in the 24/25 season.

All applicants must have a registered residential address in Norway.

All applicants must confirm that they are students during the 24/25 season.

Upon offer of participation, the applicant will receive an agreement for signing. To confirm your participation, NOK 1,000 is paid as a participation fee. The agreement and participation fee are there to ensure participation in the program.

The Application Process

The application must include video recordings of two opera arias. The arias must represent two contrasting styles and may be performed with piano and/or orchestral accompaniment. Total playing time must not exceed 10 minutes.

The video recordings must be of recent date (maximum 6 months old), performed by the applicant and must not be edited or have any effects added. The applicant is responsible for ensuring that the video is filmed in good quality (image and sound). To ensure that poor quality does not interfere with the admission jury’s ability to assess the material, you should avoid distortion and ensure that the accompaniment isn’t louder than the applicant. You will not be penalised for the quality of the video, although it is important that it is good enough to see and hear you clearly.

The applicant must specify the composer, title, first line of the aria and durata within the application (e.g. W.A. Mozart, La Clemenza di Tito, Sesto Parto Parto, 6:00 min).

An admission jury will assess all application on the basis on the submitted recordings. Interviews may also be conducted with relevant candidates. All applicants will receive a written response to their application in the beginning of May. Read more about the admission jury here
