The Queen Sonja Singing Competition (QSSC) is a prestigious biennial event attracting singers from all around the globe. The competition is highly selective. This year, we saw a record number of applicants to the competition. 521 singers from 58 nations have been assessed by the international jury, comprised of opera directors and casting supervisors from several of the world’s leading opera houses.

19 countries will be represented in this year’s competition. Among the 40 participants, we find aspiring talents from leading opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera Covent Garden in London, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Berlin State Opera, and the Zurich Opera House.

This year, the competition is set to take place from August 15th to 26th in Oslo, Norway, with preliminary rounds and semifinals held at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. The competition final will be held at the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet. Here, the top six contestants will perform opera arias, accompanied by the National Opera Orchestra, and conducted by James Gaffigan.
